How Quickly Life Repeats Itself
Sunday, August 23rd, 2009For more years than I can remember, this weekend was always one filled with much mixed emotions. The summer as we knew it was coming to a close and the school year was beginning. So many, many pencils, crayons, books, notebooks and of course those famous backpacks were the tools of the trade. How life has changed; backpacks on wheels, laptops, I pods, and don’t forget emailing and texting instead of calling. We all know we have to “go with the flow” and embrace progress and change. It’s what we do to move on. Year after year our children started school with excitement, hope, some nervousness, I’m sure, but with a good degree of confidence for the new school year. Forgive me if I seem over nostalgic but we will begin all over again, as our first grandson starts preschool. Not just any preschool, but the very place where our eldest daughter (as well as our other two children) attended from PK-3 through High School: the Samuel Scheck Hillel Community Day School. On one hand I envy my daughter and son-in-law for all the too many to count experiences they are about to have as they watch their son begin a new chapter in his life. On the other hand, we are so grateful to be able to enjoy this new journey as grandparents and be taken along for this most delicious ride. So if you may indulge me, this is for posterity, in the hopes that one day, our grandson will read this and remember how special he and this day are. Dear Alexander, Be a good boy, and listen to your teachers. Make sure to wash your hands after you go to the bathroom and of course before you eat. Be nice to all the other boys and girls in your class. We know you are going to make lots of friends and learn so many new things in your new school. We promise to come to see you in school whenever Grandparents are invited (and even if they are not.) Be as sweet as you are and most of all don’t forget to give your Mama and Papa a big hug and kiss every time you go into your class. Have a wonderful year in PK-2. Love always, Mima and Pipa
