There are Professional Realtors, and then there’s?
Thursday, January 31st, 2008I’m not sure what you call them; actually depending on the circumstances what you call them can change. Realtors are licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations in the State of Florida. This is the same governing board that licenses attorneys, physicians and similar professionals. So why is there such a tremendous difference in how we conduct ourselves professionally? I’m sure what I’m about to discuss is on the minds of a majority of the true professional realtors in South Florida. I am frustrated with the lack of quality real estate licensees who are actively engaged in the business of Real Estate. I take my profession very seriously. The truth is that I am responsible for the financial direction of what could be my clients’ most expensive purchase/sale. No one would tolerate the kind of irresponsible behavior from a lawyer or a doctor that they seem to with a real estate agent. It’s time for the real estate professionals to own up to the word “professional” and act accordingly. Follow these simple, expected courtesies:
- Returning phone calls
- Setting up appointments
- Keeping appointments
- Being sensitive to everyone’s
time - Behaving responsibly once you
have an offer - Following up with your client or
another agent
These are fundamentals that should be practiced with each and every client, fellow real estate agent and transaction. Real estate agents who do not act professionally may have been lucky to participate in transactions in the past due to the popular market. However, they will become a dying breed and only those who rise to the word “professional” will stay in the business. The clients and the true professional real estate agents will not tolerate it anymore. Life is too short……we all deserve the courtesies that should be afforded to us.
