10 Commandments of Real Estate

The 10 Commandments of Real Estate would definitely include Treat others as you would like to be treated…
One of my agents shared her frustrations with the rest of us at this week’s office meeting. Unfortunately, what we heard is something each one of us has experienced more times than we would like to admit…
This is the e-mail this agent sent to her former client. “This e-mail will probably not make one bit of difference to you and your lives but I must speak out. I worked very hard marketing and presenting your apartment, not to mention the many favors I did for you above and beyond the scope of real estate. I spent many of my dollars advertising and marketing. Every possible lead that came to view your place was given 100% of my attention. I work because I have to work and I do not make any commission until there is a sale and a closing. I stayed in touch with you constantly, reviewed the changes in the market regularly. The times I had interested customers I encouraged them to make offers and although they may have started off lower than you had wanted, your husband was rude and yelled at me as if I made up these numbers. During the most recent offer… you both told me that you want to NET $280,000 after commissions are paid, and not to show the apartment unless buyers understood that. I explained to both of you that as realtors we don’t make or set the market, which is what buyers do. I calmly explained to your husband that locking yourself into a mindset was not in your best interest especially in today’s market. Remember the conversations we had over the past seven months, the offers you turned down in excess of $290,000. Now you cancel the listing and within 2 weeks you call me to tell me how right I was. You also tell me that the new agent who put no money, energy, effort or time is going to receive half of the commission, and that you sold the apartment for $270,000 including commissions, and you feel badly for me. I cannot tell you how disappointed and disgusted I am with people that just don’t give a damn about other people and their work ethics. I want you to know that how you treat people is how you will be treated”
On a positive note, we are grateful for the majority of our clients whom have treated us fairly and truly appreciate the efforts that go into “getting the job done” especially, these days…
